In what is maybe one of the most striking signs that the golden age of big porn studios is finally over, the latest deal of Gamma Broadcast Group will see the Canadian company taking over the day to day operation of Vivid Entertainment’s websites. The service provider and network operator takes over the operational business of VividTV and Vivid.com, two brands of the once world-leading porn studio Vivid, which became famous and infamous for its celebrity tapes.
Gamma Broadcast continues to expand its dominant position in the broadcasting of online pornography. Founded in 1996, the company operates a huge network of porn sites, some of which exclusively distribute content from the successful Greg Lansky studio brands Tushy and Blacked, Evil Angel, Girlfriend Films, Peter North, Sylvia Saint, Rocco Siffredi and TS specialist Grooby. Now Gamma also takes over the operative business of the brands Vivid.com and VividTV from the former porn giant Vivid.
One of the two studio founders, Steven Hirsch, commented on the deal with Gamma: »It’s the perfect time to combine VividTV’s worldwide success in developing the adult TV business with Gamma’s online and technology expertise.«
While Hirsch emphasizes that he and Vivid co-leader Bill Asher will continue to work closely on the strategic partnership and will continue to control Vivid Radio and the Vivid licensing business, the former market leader seems to surrender to the power of tube sites like PornHub, the dominance of SEO, free pornography and webcams.
The studio has an extensive catalogue from its 35 years in the porn business. Many of these movies continue to be bestsellers and sell worldwide. That this is an immense value remains undisputed, but it seems that the Vivid founders have come to the conclusion that others can capitalize on this value better than Vivid itself.
The Canadian company Gamma has focused for years on context marketing and service for entire online networks in adult entertainment. In addition to its own broadcasting network, the company offers managed IT services and website and network hosting, as well as affiliate programs, online marketing, maintenance and server management.
Michael H. Klein is Gamma’s Head of Broadcasting and Licensing. Commenting on the agreement with Vivid, he says: »We are very excited to partner with Steven and Bill to take advantage of Vivid’s 35 years of history and strong industry foothold. Combine that with all the award-winning content that Gamma Films produces, along with all the top brands for which we have exclusive worldwide broadcasting rights, and you have one of the stronger products to bring to the marketplace.«
