The porn studio TrenchcoatX, established by porn star Kayden Kross, is taken over by the studio group Strike 3 owned by award-winning star director Greg Lansky (Tushy, Blacked). This continues the increasing consolidation process among the top US studios that has been taking place over the past two years.
The disrupting force of the Canadian MindGeek group with its network of tube sites (PornHub, RedTube, YouPorn) and porn studios (Brazzers) lead to an accelerated consolidation process and increasing collaboration among the remaining competitors in the field of paid content. In addition to Gamma and Kink, larger and larger studio groups are forming, promising better chances of survival together. Now the multiple award-winning director and porn producer Greg Lansky has taken over the majority of Kayden Kross’ niche studio and website TrenchcoatX through his company Strike 3. Industry experts suspect that the takeover will soon be followed by others.
Studios and porn websites are moving closer together
After all, the business model of studios and website operators is still under attack. On the one hand, the free tube sites are still a big problem, but also the success of cam networks and clip site operators. Most studios either rely on the strategy of a pointed niche (Duke Dollars, Bang), on ever more elaborate glamour productions (Gamma, Strike 3) or give up their own film production all together and try to build networks that distribute the productions of other studios (Kink) or join larger networks (Girlsway, Burning Angel).
TrenchcoatX established itself as a curated niche platform
The acquisition of TrenchcoatX, however, is the first takeover of Lansky’s growing network of sites. Kayden Kross is one of the biggest stars in the industry. She says: »TrenchcoatX began as a small project funded by money generated from Fleshlight sales as performers and was further funded by the first subscribers on a platform that mainly offered licensed content. Eventually, loyal fans generated enough income to allow me to move to a full-time production schedule, and that first year of critical recognition from reviewers and awards shows is what got the attention of Greg Lansky and his partners.«
She adds: »This past year has been a whirlwind as the studio has grown and matured into what it is today. The mentorship and opportunities that Greg Lansky has provided me with the work I did for his brands has allowed me to sharpen my work on TrenchcoatX, and there’s not a more fitting evolution of my brand than this partnership nor is there a higher aspiration within an industry than to take a fledgling idea and grow it into a property that is of interest to the most exclusive powerhouse in the game.«
Kross started her website in 2015 with the slogan »Curated Smut« and quickly developed it into a specialist for elaborately shot, ethically produced porn with an indie look. »With this new partnership, what you’ve seen from TrenchcoatX is only the beginning,« says the confidence-boosting Kross.
